SIERRA-KILO-ALPHA Takes out the Best World Music ARIA Award!

The very nature of our new album, Sierra Kilo Alpha, was built on the strength of cultural diversity and is all about embracing the international diaspora that exists today.

Maltese, Jamaican,Scottish, Australian, Trinidadian, Venezuelan, Greek,Indian, Dutch, English, Italian, Spanish and then some, make up the orchestra and our sole intention was to make an album of International Ska, universal music, embracing the global community.

To win this World Music ARIA, is such an accolade and offers recognition of what we have been working towards as a band for many years.

Thanks ARIA and thanks to you our Fans.

‘Sierra-Kilo-Alpha’ nominated for 2016 ARIA Award

Melbourne Ska Orchestra’s second album ‘Sierra-Kilo-Alpha’ has picked up a nomination for Best World Music Album at the 2016 ARIA Fine Arts Awards.

No strangers to the ARIA Awards, MSO received two nominations for our debut self-titled album in 2013 as well as a Best Live Act nomination in 2014. This will however be the first time MSO have been nominated in the Best World Music Album category.

The nomination, which follows a huge set at Splendour In The Grass and a UK Tour, has capped off a massive year.

The awards will be presented on Wednesday 5th October at the ARIA Nominations Event in Sydney.

Wish us luck…. Skavoovie!

‘Sly Boots’ Film Clip Launch

‘Sly Boots’ is the third single from our new album ‘SIERRA-KILO-ALPHA’, which was named in Rolling Stone’s ’50 Best Albums of 2016 So Far’.

Its Felix the Cat meets Monty Python on a Melbourne summer evening in Fitzroy. We’re just havin fun in the clip, which is exactly what we do on stage.

We worked with the Jacobsonson production team for filming/editing and Morgan Quinn for the cartoon characters. All filming was made up quick and on the spot, with a respect to the cartoons and animations that were part of our childhood.

The concept came from a short animation that Morgan (Rudekat) had done, we rang him and he said “skoopidorama. I’m flat chat and have to go away… but it sounds like fun… I’ll do it. What’s the Deadline?”

…We got it out before MSO hit the Main Stage at Splendour In The Grass and then head over to the UK in August, for 9 shows! The UK tour is in support of the new album release via Proper Music UK and will take in shows at London’s The Garage, Boomtown Fair, Kaya World Music Festival, and Edinburgh Fringe Festival (for 6 nights).

See you on the dance floor somewhere… Skavoovie!
